Event description

Celebrate the launch of my first book and help girls and their Mum's/Caregivers girls embark on a positive and joyful puberty and menarche journey !

I am donating 5% of all the proceedings from the book launch to Maya. She is ten years old and a victim of the Yazidi genocide. Maya suffers from an incurable and very rare skin condition, which requires a special cream to make her pain bearable. She is in a Yazidi refugee camp in Northern Iraq, under the medical care of the Amar Foundation. The money will be used to buy the cream.

So, every time you buy my book you are not helping the girls closest to you but Maya as well’

With love and gratitude, Elena

“My Dear Period is a delightful, playful and engaging guidebook full of very useful, fun information to support young girls with their first period. It is written with so much love and care, everyone who reads it will feel it”

Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, authors of 'Wild Power' and Founders of Red School

“This is a beautiful, imaginative and enchanting guide to the experiences of menstruation. It is written with love and exquisitely illustrated by Elena. I warmly recommend this tender, friendly guide to all girls and young people who are about to begin menstruating."

Uma Dinsnmore-Tuli PHD. Author of ‘Yoni Shakti. A Woman’s Guide to Power and Freedom Through Yoga and Tantra

“My Dear Period is a mighty contribution to this cause and, importantly, dedicated to those at the very beginning of their menstrual life, giving girls the opportunity to develop a forward-looking experience of the menstrual cycle characterised by confidence, knowledge and agency.  In My Dear Period Elena Riu invites girls, and those alongside them, to a rich and engrossing journey through all thing’s puberty and periods. Not only does this provide a potent antidote to shame and taboo, but most importantly it offers a positive, well-informed perspective that warmly welcomes girls into the world of menstrual cycling and life in a female body.

Simply put this is a delightful and thoughtful book that honours this quintessential experience and offers many hours of fascination, fun, and rewarding return visits”

Jane Bennett  ‘Founder, Celebration Day for Girls and the Chalice Foundation, Menstrual educator and author of About Bloody Time.
