Our next Bath Life Network Lunch on March 17 is a special exploration of an independent store competing with one of the world’s largest companies. Robert Topping is the founder of Toppings. 10 years ago he set out a bold vision of how a thoughtful retailer can compete with Amazon with its two advantages: direct sales of books from the world’s largest etailer; and e-books via Kindle.  

Since then, his business has grown – most recently with the big move to York St in Bath and  a sooncome opening in York.  

How so? What role does experiential play in retailing success? How can independents succeed vs multinationals? Just how does it attract the biggest name authors so regularly? And how important is clarity of vision and purpose in underpinning a business? 

Robert will be discussing all this and more.
